Background

Eight years as an SRE, most of it on-call. I have been paged at 3am by a dashboard that was itself broken, which is roughly the origin story of Overcast.

The thesis

Every observability vendor optimises for the enterprise buyer, then offers a free tier that expires exactly when it becomes useful. Small teams end up with either nothing or a bill that dwarfs their infrastructure spend.

There is a real product in the middle of that gap.
